Assam in turmoil – Congress says powerful forces are interfering in Zubeen's death case!

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Tuesday accused CM Himanta Biswa Sarma of political interference in the investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death. At a district review meeting held in Biswanath Chariali, several senior leaders, including APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, former president Ripun Borah, and Bhupen Kumar Borah, claimed that a “powerful and invisible force” was behind Zubeen Garg’s death. They alleged that the Chief Minister was concealing crucial information despite making statements in the Assembly.

“The Chief Minister is hiding something” – Gaurav Gogoi’s allegation

At the meeting, Gaurav Gogoi questioned how the Chief Minister could point to the mastermind of the murder when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had not yet filed a charge sheet. Gogoi said, “We will wait a few days to see if the SIT uncovers the real truth, but the Chief Minister did not disclose the full details in the Assembly. The people who have been accused are not the real culprits. There is someone big and powerful behind this, whose information has not been made public.”
Gogoi further said that the public is losing faith in the Chief Minister.
“Go to the villages and see for yourself, people are saying they have no faith in the Chief Minister to deliver justice. He is spreading confusion to save his eroding reputation.”

Congress leaders question – “If the CM knows everything, then why was the SIT formed?”

Former APCC President Ripun Borah also questioned the Chief Minister’s role. He asked on what basis the Chief Minister is giving information about the investigation as if he is part of the SIT.
“If the Chief Minister already knows everything, then why was the SIT needed? This raises doubts about whether the entire investigation is impartial.”

Bhupen Borah said that Zubeen Garg’s death has united the entire state, and the Congress stands as the voice of this emotional unity of the people. He said, “Himanta Biswa Sarma does not have the courage to divide those who took to the streets after Zubeen Garg’s death.”

Allegations of voter list manipulation ahead of the 2026 elections

Gogoi also accused the state government of manipulating the voter list to influence the 2026 assembly elections. He claimed that the government is trying to add people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to the Assam voter list through the Special Revision (SR) process.

He said, “The Chief Minister is creating fake voter lists to save his position. The Congress will urge its workers to remain vigilant in the coming days. The future of Assam will be decided by the people of Assam.”

Ripun Borah also said that despite being in power for ten years, the government has failed to address the problems of development and unemployment. “People will not be fooled if they wake up three months before the elections,” he said.
In this review meeting, Congress representatives from Biswanath, Dhemaji, North Lakhimpur, Udalguri and Darrang districts discussed the strategy for the 2026 elections in detail.
