Assam: The Department of Higher Education (DHE) has issued new guidelines for Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award under Pragya Bharati Scheme for the academic year 2025-26. Some important changes have been made this year. Now students have to score 80% or more marks in the Higher Secondary Final Examination, 2025 conducted by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB). Earlier this criteria was 70% for boys and 60% for girls, and they were given scooters as a reward.
Some new conditions were imposed this time
As per this year’s guidelines, students who appeared in the examination again to get better marks will not be eligible for this scheme. Also, it has been ensured that the students should be residents of Assam, but students who are pursuing education outside the state will also be eligible if they have a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) of Assam. The scheme is application based and no offline application will be accepted.
Online Application Process and List Upload
The Higher Education Department will obtain the list of students securing 80% and above marks from ASSEB. This list will be uploaded on the official website https://directorateofhighereducation.assam.gov.in/. Eligible students can fill the online application form from there. After this, the Director of Higher Education will release a list of nodal principals, who will ensure smooth process of scooter distribution. The nodal principals will have to obtain appreciation certificates from DHE and they will have to submit it to the respective dealer.
Registration and other process for scooter
Eligible students will have to obtain appreciation certificates from the nodal principals and submit it to the designated dealer. The government will provide the amount for scooter registration and insurance to the nodal principals. The nodal principals will have to check the information of the beneficiaries properly and release the money to the dealer without any delay. After this, the students will receive the scooters from the designated dealer and they will not have to pay any money for registration. Under this scheme the beneficiaries will not get the benefit of “Nijut Moina Yojana” but if any girl beneficiary misses out on this award then she can apply for Nijut Moina Yojana.
