The Assam government has announced a new initiative for flood control, in which youth will be assigned the responsibility of monitoring embankments as volunteers. The aim of this scheme is to prevent cracks in embankments during floods and take necessary steps in time. Under this program, 10-15 young volunteers will be appointed to monitor every 8-10 km embankment.
Volunteers will get safety equipment and government support
These volunteers will be given the necessary equipment to deal with floods, which will include raincoats, torches, gumboots and geobags. If any weakness or crack is seen in any embankment, they will immediately inform the administration, so that necessary steps can be taken in time. The volunteers will also be given a certificate of appreciation by the Chief Minister after completing their service in October. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this initiative will develop a sense of responsibility and vigilance among the youth, which will reduce the damage caused by floods and ensure the safety of the community.
Rs 190 crore approved for health services
The Assam government has taken another big decision to strengthen health facilities. The state government has approved Rs 190 crore for the distribution of free medicines in government hospitals. The main objective of this initiative is to provide better health services to the economically weaker sections, so that the poor can get the necessary treatment and they do not have to depend on private hospitals.
Boosting employment and infrastructure development
Apart from this, the state government has also approved a budget of Rs 142 crore to build a hostel for working women in JagIROAD. This hostel will accommodate 1,000 women who will soon get employment in a semiconductor plant coming up in the area. This project will not only provide employment to women but will also boost the industrial development of Assam. Through these schemes, the Assam government is focusing on the overall development of the state along with flood control, health facilities and promotion of employment.
