Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday stated that Assam has transitioned from a prolonged period of instability to a phase of sustained peace over the past decade. Addressing booth-level workers under the ‘Mera Booth, Sabse Mazboot Samvaad’ initiative ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, he highlighted the efforts of the central and state leadership in restoring confidence among citizens. He credited the BJP’s governance model, often referred to as the “double-engine government,” for accelerating development while simultaneously improving law and order conditions in the state.
Peace Agreements and Government Efforts in the Northeast
Modi emphasized that the government has signed 12 peace agreements with various organizations across the Northeast to strengthen stability in the region. According to him, these agreements have played a crucial role in reducing violence and fostering an environment of trust and progress. He contrasted this with earlier periods, alleging that past agreements were not effectively implemented. He suggested that under previous administrations, particularly during Congress rule, such accords remained largely symbolic and failed to address ground-level concerns of affected communities.
Criticism of Congress and Outreach to Voters
In his address, the Prime Minister strongly criticized the Indian National Congress, accusing it of neglecting peace accords and failing to deliver tangible outcomes. He alleged that earlier agreements were “only on paper” and did not translate into real benefits for the people, leaving many youth vulnerable to unrest and uncertainty. Modi urged BJP workers to actively engage with voters, especially first-time voters, and educate them about what he described as the shortcomings of previous governments. He cautioned that even a minor error in judgment during voting could reverse the progress achieved in the state over the past years.
Election Preparedness, Digital Awareness, and Political Context
As the election campaign intensifies, Modi also called upon party workers to expand their outreach efforts at the grassroots level, ensuring close interaction with voters across communities. He warned against the spread of AI-generated videos, stating that such content could be used to mislead and influence public opinion during the election period. Elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly are scheduled for April 9, with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance aiming to secure a third consecutive term in the state. The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore the party’s focus on development, stability, and voter engagement as key themes in the high-stakes electoral contest.
