Assam Elections 2026: Himanta Biswa Sarma Promises 2 Lakh Government Jobs to Youth

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again promised a major employment push if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returns to power in Assam after the 2026 Assembly elections. Speaking at the concluding phase of the Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Nalbari on Monday night, Sarma highlighted the BJP’s achievements in providing jobs and welfare support to the youth. Addressing thousands of supporters from atop his vehicle, he urged the electorate to restore an indigenous government in the state, emphasizing the party’s commitment to employment generation and development.

Record Employment and Future Pledges

During his address, the Chief Minister pointed out that while the BJP had promised one lakh government jobs in 2021, it had exceeded expectations by providing more than 1.5 lakh employment opportunities to youth across Assam. Building on this track record, Sarma pledged that a re-elected BJP government will offer over 2 lakh new government appointments. In addition, he announced the continuation of financial incentives for unemployed youths, stating that under the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan (CMAAA), Rs 2 lakh had already been provided to one lakh unemployed individuals, and the same support will be extended to 10 lakh unemployed youth in the next term.

Support for Women and Rural Entrepreneurs

Sarma also reiterated the BJP’s focus on women’s empowerment and rural entrepreneurship. Under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA), the government will provide Rs 25,000 to women beneficiaries to promote micro-enterprises led by rural women. Highlighting the party’s initiatives in financial security and empowerment, Sarma noted that these programs aim to enhance women’s participation in economic activities and ensure sustainable livelihoods. The BJP’s policies, he said, are designed to strengthen Nari Shakti while driving economic growth at the grassroots level.

Land Reforms and Anti-Encroachment Measures

On the governance front, Sarma reaffirmed that eviction drives to reclaim government land from illegal occupation will continue. During the current term, the BJP government successfully cleared 1.5 lakh bighas of encroached land, and plans are underway to liberate 5 lakh bighas in the coming years. The Chief Minister emphasized that these measures not only protect public resources but also pave the way for infrastructure development and public welfare projects across Assam. By combining employment, financial incentives, and land reforms, Sarma argued, the BJP aims to reinforce its commitment to development and inclusive governance in the state.
