Assam: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein recently inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Machay Village Buddhist Monastery and Pannyasara Vidyapeeth at Margherita in Tinsukia district. The inauguration ceremony was a two-day long event with a great display of deep devotion towards Buddhism and traditional events. The ceremony began with flag hoisting, followed by a procession of the Buddhist idol and Pitesa, Paritrana chanting and prayers by Buddhist monks and devotees.

Along with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Namsai MLA Jingnu Namchoom, Margherita Assistant District Magistrate Parikashit Thoudam, Arunachal Pradesh Singpho Vikas Samaj President MN Singpho, Coordination Committee General Secretary of All Assam Man Tai Speaking Students Union Dr Ngiot Wengken and Buddhist monks and devotees from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. All of them together formally inaugurated the monastery. The event witnessed a huge gathering of Buddhist monks and devotees from Margherita, Digboi, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Arunachal Pradesh.

Emphasis on Indian heritage of Buddhism
In his inaugural address, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein underlined the deep connection between India and Lord Buddha. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi always presents India as the land of Lord Buddha during his international visits. Speaking about the richness of Buddhist culture in the north-east region, he said, “Our aim is to ensure that the heritage, language and traditions of Buddhism continue to inspire and guide the coming generations.”
Release of “Buddhist Lok” as a major highlight of the event
A souvenir titled “Buddhist Lok” was released as a major highlight of the event. The souvenir was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and MLA Jingnu Namchoom. The souvenir depicts the rich culture and history of Buddhism. The entire program was conducted by Pallab Shyam Wailung, Executive Chairman of the Management Committee of Machhe Village Buddhist Monastery and Pannyasara Vidyapeeth.
