Life disrupted due to floods
Himachal Pradesh is facing a serious crisis due to continuous torrential rains these days. Hundreds of roads, power supply systems and drinking water schemes have been affected due to floods and landslides. According to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SEOC), a total of 866 roads were closed in the state till the morning of September 7. These include three national highways (NH-03, NH-05 and NH-305). Kullu district was the worst affected, with 225 roads blocked, followed by 191 in Mandi and 154 in Shimla. Traffic was also badly affected in other districts like Chamba, Sirmaur, Kangra, Una, Solan, Bilaspur, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Hamirpur.
The devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh have caused immense loss of lives and property. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the affected.

Major impact on power and water supply
Power supply has also been severely affected due to continuous rain and floods. 1,572 power distribution transformers have stopped working across the state. Of these, 873 transformers have failed in Kullu district alone. 259 transformers in Mandi and 142 in Lahaul-Spiti are out of order. Due to this, there is a power outage in rural and hilly areas, which has severely affected communication and daily life. Water supply schemes have also come to a halt, due to which people are facing huge problems.
Death toll and relief work
Since the beginning of this monsoon season, 366 people have died in Himachal Pradesh. Of these, 203 deaths occurred in rain-related incidents, while 163 people lost their lives in road accidents. The state government and disaster management teams are continuously engaged in relief work. NDRF and SDRF teams are working day and night to rescue people stranded in the mountains and open closed roads. This financial assistance from the Assam government will provide great relief to the flood-affected families and areas of Himachal Pradesh and will speed up the reconstruction work there.
