A grand roadshow led by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in Jorhat city brought the entire city to a standstill for hours. The massive roadshow, which ran from Dos & Co Chariali to Baruah Chariali, drew a massive crowd of over 15,000 people, making it the largest political event in recent times.
The road show was organized in support of BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami, who is contesting against prominent Congress leader and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi. As the Chief Minister’s convoy passed through various areas of the city, thousands of people came out of their homes and lined the roadsides to welcome him. The atmosphere was completely festive. BJP workers and the public showered flowers on the Chief Minister and gave him a rousing welcome.
The crowds completely disrupted traffic on several major city roads, causing traffic jams that lasted for hours. However, BJP leaders have described this overwhelming public support as a positive sign for the upcoming elections. Following the road show, the Chief Minister addressed a public meeting at Nehru Park, Chariali .
Referring to the proposed elevated corridor in Kaziranga, the CM expressed his gratitude to the people of Jorhat in his address, saying, “I thank the people of Jorhat. We are carrying out many development projects here, including a drinking water project.” He also mentioned the proposed elevated corridor in Kaziranga, which he said would reduce the travel time between Jorhat and Guwahati by approximately one hour. He appealed to the people to make their decisions with development in mind.
The Chief Minister also expressed confidence in the election results, saying the BJP could win 90 to 100 seats. As rain began to fall toward the end of his speech, he said, “When ‘Nar’ and ‘Narayan’ come together, success is certain.” This grand road show and overwhelming public support have given new momentum to the BJP’s election campaign in Jorhat, making the upcoming contest even more interesting.
