Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday inaugurated the newly built Saraighat Lake Park in Amingaon area of Guwahati. This initiative is considered to be an important step towards preserving the natural reservoirs of the state and promoting eco-tourism. The Chief Minister said that the development work around this lake is taking a very beautiful shape and many tourists have already come here so far.
Tourism will get a boost
Assam Tourism Development Corporation i.e. ATDC has also played an important role in the construction of this park. The aim of the government is not only beautification but also to attract tourists so that the local people can get new employment opportunities. This park is now moving towards becoming one of the major tourist destinations of Guwahati and it is expected that more tourists will come here in the coming time.

Unique initiative of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
Along with this, a big tree plantation awareness program was conducted in Morigaon district in collaboration with Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary and Seven Sisters Development Assistance i.e. SESTA. This campaign was run in Mayong area with the aim of improving the livelihood of the local people along with environmental protection.
Emphasis on scientific farming and organic farming
SESTA and Forest Department officials have marked 53 bighas of public and private land for plantation. These include mahogany, mango, red sandalwood, guava and silk producing species like Som and Keshar. More than 30 farmers and social workers attended the program and were given information about scientific plantation and organic farming.
Source of income with greenery
Range Officer of Forest Department Pranjal Barua said that the beneficiaries will be given high quality saplings, organic fertilizer, bio-fungicide, guards for tree protection and technical support. Along with this, crop registration and technical guidance will also be provided. This scheme has been made not only to increase greenery but also to open a new way of income for the people of the village.
