The tremors were felt at 04:17:40 AM, with the epicenter located at 26.37 N latitude and 92.29 E longitude at a depth of 50 km. The earthquake was felt in several districts of Assam and also in Shillong, Meghalaya. The earthquake was recorded in Morigaon district, on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River.

Where were the tremors felt?

Residents of Kamrup Metropolitan, Nagaon, East and West Karbi Anglong, Hojai, Dima Hasao, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Dhubri, South Salmara Mankachar, and Goalpara felt the tremors.

In addition, the earthquake was also felt in several northern districts including Darrang, Tamulpur, Sonitpur, Kamrup, Biswanath, Udalguri, Nalbari, Bajali, Barpeta, Baksa, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, and Lakhimpur.

The impact of the earthquake extended far beyond Assam. Parts of Arunachal Pradesh, the entire state of Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and West Bengal also felt the tremors. According to seismic reports, the tremors were strong enough to be felt in parts of central eastern Bhutan, China, and Bangladesh.
