A unique opportunity for students to learn about the functioning of Assam Legislative Assembly! Assam Legislative Assembly organized 'Yuva Visarjan Program'

The Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) on Tuesday organised the second Youth Immersion Programme of 2025 at the Jwalo Nileshwar Brahma Auditorium of Bodoland University. The theme of this year was “Education, Participation and Experience of Legislative Processes: Be the Future.” BTC chief Pramod Boro said in the inaugural session that the programme is extremely useful for students, especially graduates. He said that in a democratic nation, it is very important to know the functioning and procedures of the Legislative Assembly because in future these youth will lead the country.

Importance of democratic awareness

Pramod Boro also said that most of the ministers of the country are running their departments without having any experience. He said that most of the citizens are unaware of their fundamental rights and duties. In such a situation, this type of programme is extremely important for the youth. He said that Rs 4,850 crore is required for road infrastructure in BTC, but due to lack of resources, the focus was first on peace and stability. Now the focus will be on education, youth entrepreneurship, skill development and infrastructure development.

Experience of the functioning of the Legislative Assembly

ALA President Biswajit Daimary said in the presentation that being a citizen of a democratic country, every person should be aware of the democratic processes of the country. He explained in detail about the proceedings of legislative sessions, discussions, Governor’s address, passing of rules and bills, law making, budget preparation and debates on various issues. He told that it is the responsibility of the government to answer the questions of the representatives elected by the public.

Responsibility and accountability of MLAs

Daimary also told that the responsibility and accountability of MLAs is very important. He said that the government work is reviewed through proposals and monitoring. BTC Deputy Chief Executive Minister Govind Chandra Basumatary, ALA Vice President Nurul Amin, BTC Chairman Katiram Boro, MP Jayant Basumatary, MLA Lawrence Isleri and Kokrajhar University Vice Chancellor Professor Ganesh Chandra Wari also addressed the program.

Participation of students and teachers

Students from various colleges of Kokrajhar and faculty members of Bodoland University were present in this youth immersion program. The aim of the programme was to enhance the knowledge of democratic process and leadership skills of the youth. The students got a first-hand experience of the legislative processes and gained the knowledge required to become responsible citizens in the future.
