The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has taken a major action against drug dealers and seized drugs worth about Rs 73 crore 20 lakh in two separate operations within 24 hours. During this, three accused have been arrested, including a woman. On Saturday, a 32-year-old woman named Sajida Begum was arrested from Saukuchi area near Guwahati. 278.28 grams of heroin was found from her, which is estimated to be worth about Rs 2 crore 20 lakh. Police have also recovered a mobile phone and Rs 1 lakh 49 thousand in cash from her.

The biggest cache of drugs was recovered on Friday

A day before this, on Friday, the STF had conducted a major raid by stopping two vehicles in Kamrup district of Assam in which drugs worth Rs 71 crore were seized. 2.7 lakh Yaba (methamphetamine) tablets were recovered from a truck, which are worth about Rs 67 crore. Also, 520 grams of heroin was recovered from a Hyundai car, which is said to be worth Rs 4 crore. The heroin was hidden in 40 soap boxes. During this, Noor Islam (34) and Nazrul Hussain alias Ali Hussain (22) were arrested.

CM Sarma praised STF

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the STF on social media while appreciating this action. He said that the state government is working on a zero tolerance policy against drugs and this rapid action of STF is a strong step in this direction. The campaign was conducted under the leadership of STF chief Parthasarathi Mahanta and Additional SP Kalyan Pathak played an important role in it.

Drug consignment was coming from Myanmar

Police officials say that the seized Yaba tablets and heroin were brought from Myanmar and transported to Assam via a neighboring state. It is feared that this consignment was to be sent to Bangladesh or other parts of India. The STF is constantly monitoring the border areas and the smuggling routes connected to Myanmar. Officials also said that in the coming days, even more strict action will be taken against the drug network and preparations are underway to completely break these smuggling networks.
