Heroin worth Rs 4 crore seized in Guwahati, Assam Police takes major action against drug smuggling

Assam Police on Saturday achieved a major success by seizing heroin worth about Rs 4 crore from a bus at the Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Guwahati. The bus had come from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. Based on intelligence information, the police searched the bus (registration number AR 11 B 8912) and recovered 35 packets of heroin weighing 455 grams.

Change in the method of smuggling, drugs were being transported in the open

In previous cases, the drugs were smuggled in soap boxes or other items, but this time the heroin was placed in the bus without any special concealment. This indicates that the smugglers have changed their modus operandi. This drug was being brought to distribute in areas of ‘Lower Assam’ like Rangia and Hajo.
