A huge quantity of drugs was caught in Assam, Amit Shah said – a strong blow to the drug mafia

In Assam, a joint team of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Assam Police and CRPF carried out a major operation and seized 30.4 kg of methamphetamine tablets (Yaba), which is worth around Rs 24.32 crore. In this operation, three drug smugglers have been arrested and two vehicles have also been seized. This action was taken at two different places in Silchar, which were under surveillance for more than three months on the basis of intelligence.

On this success, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed happiness on the social media platform ‘X’ and wrote, “Modi government is crushing the drug mafia with full force. Our agencies are continuously working towards the goal of a drug-free India. In a major action against drug smugglers in Assam, 30.4 kg of methamphetamine tablets were seized and three people were arrested. Our campaign will continue strictly.”

Two operations in the same night, smugglers from Manipur arrested

In this operation which took place on 6th April, the first action was taken near Guwahati, where 9.9 kg of Yaba tablets were recovered from a car. The person arrested is a resident of Churachandpur in Manipur. The second action took place in Silchar on the same night, when 20.5 kg of tablets were recovered from a Mahindra Thar vehicle. In this, two accused were arrested, who are also residents of Churachandpur. At present, investigation is going on in both these cases and other links are being searched.

Action is being taken against smugglers continuously

The NCB is constantly tightening its grip on the international drug syndicate active in this area. Recently, new zonal units have been set up in Siliguri, Itanagar, Agartala and Imphal and regional headquarters in Guwahati. A new field office was also opened in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, in March 2025, with the help of which 10.814 kg of Yaba tablets were seized on March 24 and 6 people were arrested, out of which 2 were citizens of Myanmar. Earlier on March 13, 110 kg of tablets were also seized.
