Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced that the state government will build a state-of-the-art women’s hostel for the upcoming Tata Semiconductor facility. The hostel will be built for women working at the Tata Semiconductor factory located at Jagiroad in Morigaon district, at a cost of Rs 142 crore. According to Chief Minister Sarma, this women’s hostel will be for thousands of women who are working to build their future with purpose and pride.
Hostel will become a symbol of Nari Shakti
Chief Minister said that this hostel will not be just a building, but it will become a symbol of Nari Shakti. Every convenient and safe environment will be available for working women here, so that they can move forward with their hard work and dedication. The hostel will have state-of-the-art rooms, where women will be able to rest after a long shift. Apart from this, there will also be a creche here, where working mothers will be able to keep their children safe.
Semiconductor factory will open new opportunities for women
CM Sarma also said that the Tata Semiconductor factory will provide new employment opportunities for the women of Assam in the coming times. This facility will not only be a factory but will become a symbol of progress for the north-eastern region. Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Private Limited (TSAT) will be India’s first indigenous and greenfield semiconductor assembly and test facility, which is an important step towards self-reliance.
Boost industrialisation and skill development
The project is supported under the Semiconductor Policy of the Government of India and the Electronics Policy of Assam. The project has been approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024. With the completion of the first phase of work by mid-2025, the facility will not only become a catalyst for industrialisation and employment but will also boost skill development in the entire region.
