The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) has set up seven specialised teams to closely monitor the vote counting process for the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections. According to party officials, the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. The move is aimed at strengthening on-ground supervision and ensuring transparency during one of the most critical phases of the electoral process. Senior leaders stated that the initiative reflects the party’s commitment to maintaining vigilance at every stage of counting and safeguarding the integrity of results.
Strategy Focused on Transparency, Coordination, and Strongroom Monitoring
Party leaders explained that the monitoring teams will play a key role in overseeing counting centres and electronic voting machine (EVM) strongrooms across the state. The teams will also coordinate closely with party candidates and district Congress units to ensure smooth communication and real-time updates. A statement issued by APCC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, along with APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, highlighted that the teams will be deployed across districts that went to polls on April 9. The state recorded an impressive voter turnout of 85.96 per cent, making the counting process particularly significant.
Regional Teams Assigned Across Upper Assam, North Bank, and Central Zones
For Upper Assam, a dedicated team including Debabrata Saikia, Raju Sahu, Utpal Gogoi, Rajkumar Nalatira Neog, David Phukan, and Mrityunjay Duarah will supervise districts such as Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat. In the North Bank region, leaders like Ripun Bora, Ghana Burhagohain, J.P. Das, Shailen Sonowal, Kartik Kurmi, Shankar Kutum, and Meghnath Chetri have been assigned responsibilities. Central Assam along with hill districts including Nagaon, Morigaon, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao will be monitored by another large team comprising multiple senior leaders to ensure coordinated oversight.
Lower Assam, Barak Valley, and BTR Also Under Dedicated Supervision
Separate teams have also been assigned to oversee Lower Assam, Barak Valley, and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), ensuring comprehensive coverage across all electoral zones. Party officials stated that members of these monitoring groups will visit counting centres ahead of May 4 and remain present until the counting process concludes. The Congress party’s strategy underscores its focus on electoral transparency, strong organisational control, and active engagement at every level of the vote counting exercise as the state awaits crucial election results.
