Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp political attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress during a public gathering in Kalna, West Bengal. Targeting the state government led by Mamata Banerjee, Sarma alleged that the party has remained in power for nearly 15 years by relying on criminal elements and poor governance practices. His remarks came at a politically sensitive time, with electoral activities gaining momentum in the state and both ruling and opposition parties intensifying their campaigns.
Allegations of Governance Failure and Claims of Political Shift in Bengal
Sarma accused the Trinamool Congress of sustaining its rule by “pandering to goons, thieves, and robbers,” along with what he described as preferential treatment toward certain communities. He claimed that West Bengal has suffered from administrative decline under the current leadership. According to him, a political change is now emerging in the state, suggesting a shift in voter sentiment. He warned Mamata Banerjee to recognize what he described as a changing political mood among the electorate, hinting at a possible challenge to the ruling party in future elections.
Welfare Promise of ₹3000 Monthly Support for Women in Bengal
Alongside his political criticism, Sarma announced a major welfare proposal aimed at women in West Bengal. He stated that financial assistance of ₹3000 per month would be provided to mothers across the state, including Kalna, if his political vision is implemented. The announcement appears to be part of a broader outreach strategy aimed at connecting with women voters, who play a crucial role in electoral outcomes. The promise reflects a combination of welfare messaging and political positioning as competition intensifies in the state.
Infrastructure and Education Development Plans for Kalna Region
Sarma also outlined infrastructure and development plans for Kalna, stating that a nursing college would be established in the region. He further proposed developing Kalna into an education hub, aiming to strengthen higher education opportunities and healthcare training facilities. These announcements were positioned as part of a broader development agenda for the region. The remarks come amid increasing political activity in West Bengal, where parties are actively engaging voters ahead of upcoming electoral battles, making the state a key focus in national political discourse.
