According to reports, Congress candidate from the Margherita constituency, Prateek Bordoloi, has withdrawn his candidacy following his father, Pradyut Bordoloi, joining the BJP. A letter regarding this has been sent to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. It should be noted that Prateek Bordoloi’s father, Pradyut Bordoloi, a Lok Sabha MP from Nagaon, Assam, resigned from the Congress party on Tuesday. Subsequently, he joined the BJP on Wednesday.

What did Pratik Bordoloi say?
In a letter to Mallikarjun Kharge, Pratik Bordoloi said, “Out of respect and responsibility towards the party, I wish to convey my decision to withdraw my candidature from the Margherita Assembly seat. Following my father’s decision to join another political party, I feel it would not be appropriate for me to continue as a candidate. However, I wish to reiterate that my faith in the ideals of the Congress remains unwavering. I will continue to work for the party and for the development of Margherita in whatever way the leadership deems appropriate.”
When are the elections in Assam?
The Election Commission has announced that voting for the Assam Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 9 for 126 seats. The election results will be declared on May 4.
