Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi has defended senior Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi amid speculation that he may resign, further heating up the political atmosphere in Assam.
Speaking to the media, Gogoi alleged that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was attempting to tarnish Bordoloi’s image through a well-orchestrated media campaign. He described these developments as a deliberate political effort aimed at weakening the Congress ahead of the upcoming elections.
What Gogoi said in Bordoloi’s defense:
Gaurav Gogoi stated that the Chief Minister of Assam is attempting to politically tarnish the image of our senior MP Pradyut Bordoloi through the media. He also expressed concern over the misinformation being spread about Bordoloi. Gogoi further stated that he, along with Congress General Secretary Jitendra Singh, recently met Bordoloi and discussed the current political situation in the state as well as preparations for the upcoming elections.
Defending Bordoloi within the Congress, Gogoi said, “We just met with Pradyut Bordoloi and discussed the upcoming elections in detail. I have just come back from speaking with him and I strongly condemn the media reports.”

This statement comes at a time when reports of Bordoloi’s resignation have fueled speculation about developments within the Assam Congress. However, Gogoi’s comments indicate that the party leadership is attempting to demonstrate unity and refute perceptions that the party’s electoral prospects could be affected.
Senior Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi is a prominent political figure in Assam and currently serves as the Member of Parliament from the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency since 2019. His political moves are being closely watched ahead of the assembly elections.
