The Government of Assam officially launched the ‘Guru Dakshina’ portal on Sunday, marking a significant step toward providing financial assistance to educators previously left out of the State’s provincialisation process. Overseen by the Department of School Education and the Department of Higher Education, the initiative is designed to offer a one-time financial settlement to eligible teachers from venture educational institutions who were not included under the Assam Venture Educational Institutions (Provincialisation of Services) Act of 2011 or its 2017 amendment. The launch reflects the State Government’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding the contributions of teachers to Assam’s educational framework.
Digital Platform Ensures Transparency and Accessibility
The newly launched digital portal, accessible at www.gurudakshinaportal.org, serves as a centralized hub for the application process. It allows teachers to upload necessary documents, monitor application status in real-time, and ensures a transparent and efficient process. The scheme is open to teachers from Lower Primary and Upper Primary schools, High Schools, Higher Secondary institutions, and Degree Colleges whose services remained unprovincialised despite their institutions being provincialised under the legislative acts. Retired teachers meeting the criteria can also apply, and in cases involving deceased educators, nominees can submit applications with the required legal heir certificates.
Eligibility, Application, and Fees
The Government has clarified that only teaching staff are eligible to register, and non-teaching personnel cannot apply. Applicants must provide active bank account details in their name, as financial assistance will be transferred directly. A non-refundable processing fee of Rs 300 has been fixed for each application to manage administrative requirements. The portal employs a rigorous three-stage verification system, beginning with recommendation by the head of the institution, followed by assessment at the district level, and a final review at the state level. This ensures the integrity of the scheme and accurate disbursement of funds.
Support and Guidance for Applicants
To facilitate a smooth application process, the Government has established a dedicated support channel. Teachers can seek assistance via phone at 08068682246 or email at gurudakshina.helpdesk@gmail.com. The launch of the Guru Dakshina portal underscores Assam’s commitment to technology-driven governance, transparency, and the welfare of educators. All eligible teachers are urged to submit their applications online within the notified timeline to ensure timely processing and financial settlement. This initiative represents a significant move toward empowering Assam’s teaching community and strengthening the State’s education system.
