To become a doctor, BDS is the shortest course among MBBS, BDS and BAMS. The full form of BDS is Bachelor of Dental Surgery. After completing the BDS course, you are called a dentist. Bachelor of Dental Surgery i.e. BDS course is of total 5 years (4+1). There is one year compulsory rotating internship in it. That is, we can say that after completing BDS studies, you can become a doctor in 5 years. Whereas, MBBS i.e. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and BAMS i.e. Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery studies are completed in total 5.5 years (4.5+1). This course is of 5.5 years, in which there is one year compulsory internship.
