Assam: Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, arrived in Assam for a two-day visit, which is being seen as a key move ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. On Thursday, February 19, she visited the Kamakhya Devi Temple for darshan, accompanied by Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi and several senior party leaders. Priyanka Gandhi emphasized that she never makes demands from God, focusing instead on her party’s preparations and strategy for the polls. Her visit is expected to energize the party cadre and consolidate Congress’ ground-level presence in the state.
First List of Congress Candidates Soon
Speaking to media, Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi revealed that the party aims to release the first list of candidates for the Assembly elections by the end of February. This initial list will cover approximately 80 seats, and the selection process is being expedited under instructions from the central leadership. Gogoi emphasized that finalizing the names quickly is crucial to ensure smooth campaigning and to stay ahead of the ruling BJP in the state. The list is expected to be officially announced in the first week of March, marking a significant step in Congress’ election preparations.

Gogoi also confirmed that the Congress-led alliance is making strong progress in Assam. The coalition includes key regional parties such as CPI(M), Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), CPI, CPI(ML) Liberation, Jatiya Dal-Assam (JDA), and the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) based in Karbi Anglong. This broad alliance aims to present a united front against the ruling BJP. Sources indicate that Priyanka Gandhi will meet with senior party functionaries and the three AICC election observers to discuss the alliance strategy and gather insights on ground realities ahead of the elections.
