Controversy over PMAY-G scheme in Assam! Opposition leader made this big demand from the central government

Controversy over PMAY-G scheme: Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia has appealed to Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to enable the people of Assam to use the official website or mobile app to apply online for houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) (PMAY-G). Saikia has sent a letter to the Union Minister in this regard, in which he thanked the Union Minister for the allocation of additional houses for the poor of Assam under this scheme.

The Chief Minister had announced online application

In his letter, Sakia wrote, “We are grateful for your generous step. I would like to say that the Chief Minister of Assam had formally launched the PMAY-G scheme in Assam on March 19, 2025. In his speech, it was said that if any genuine person is left out, he can apply for PMAY-G house through online mode through a website or mobile app. Although the Chief Minister made this announcement, the facility of online websites or mobile apps is not yet available in Assam. Therefore, it is not yet possible to self-apply for a PMAY-G house.”

Applications being made through women volunteers

Saikia further said that the Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) department in Assam has given the responsibility to women volunteers working under Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) to upload data and apply for needy persons. However, he also said that women volunteers are sometimes not able to visit every house due to various difficulties, due to which some genuine needy people are left out of the scheme.

Appeal for online application facility

Sakia has appealed to the Union Minister in his letter that the facility of online application for PMAY-G should be started in Assam as soon as possible. He says that this will benefit those who do not want to depend on women volunteers for application and want to apply online themselves. This step can prove to be an important facility for the people living in rural areas of Assam.

This move of Sakia is an important initiative towards ensuring the availability of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the rural areas of Assam.
