The National Testing Agency (NTA) has set strict exam day rules, ignoring which could result in denial of entry to the exam center. Any mistake during the JEE Main 2026 exam could be costly. The National Testing Agency has issued clear guidelines regarding the JEE Main 2026 exam. These rules will apply before and during the exam. The agency states that any negligence will not be tolerated to maintain the integrity of the exam.
It is important to reach the examination centre on time.
According to the NTA, all candidates must arrive at the examination center at least two hours before the start of the exam. Delays due to traffic, bus or train delays, or any other reason, will not be granted entry. Entry will not be permitted after the gates close.
Those who come late will not get a chance
The agency has clarified that no appeals or requests will be accepted for candidates who arrive after the scheduled time. Arriving at the examination center on time will be the sole responsibility of the candidate.
Admit card and identity card are mandatory.
To enter the examination center, candidates must have a printed admit card downloaded from the NTA website and a valid photo identification card. Without the correct documents, they will not be allowed to appear for the exam.
Strict action can be taken for changing seats
Each candidate will be assigned a seat according to their roll number. Any seating arrangement other than their assigned seat will be considered unfair means (UFM). In such cases, the candidate’s exam may be cancelled.

JEE Main 2026: Dress Code
For male candidates
- Do not wear clothes with metal buttons, chains or zips.
- Hats, mufflers or head coverings are prohibited.
- Do not wear jewellery like chain, ring, bracelet.
- Footwear: Avoid shoes with thick soles; wear simple slippers or sandals.
For female candidates
- Do not wear stole, dupatta, scarf or loose clothes.
- Do not wear jewellery like earrings, bangles, rings.
- Clothes should not have metal pins or decorative buttons.
- Do not wear high heels or heavy shoes, light sandals or slippers are better.
Rules regarding jeans: You can wear jeans. Avoid metal zips, large buttons, or designer jeans.
Do not carry mobile phones, watches, electronic devices, belts, wallets, bags, jewelry, religious or medical equipment.
