Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived in Switzerland on Monday to attend the World Economic Forum’s annual conference. This is a major and historic moment for Assam as it is the first time that the CM of Assam has presented his state’s achievements and development story to the world at this prestigious platform. When he landed at Zurich airport, he was given a warm welcome by the Indian diaspora. CM Sarma described this welcome as a source of pride and inspiration for him and said that the love and support of Indians living abroad strengthens him to highlight India and Assam’s development on the global platform.
Important talks with world leaders
Upon arriving in Switzerland, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met with several global and national leaders during the conference. He met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, and World Bank President Ajay Banga. The CM described his conversation with the Singapore President as very warm and meaningful. He wrote on his official social media account that the Singapore President’s welcome and his love for India led to a lively and encouraging dialogue. This meeting not only reflects global support for India but also opens new opportunities for Assam’s development.
A platform for global presentation of Assam’s development
During the five-day conference in Davos, Himanta Biswa Sarma will present Assam’s story to global industrialists, economists, leaders of multinational companies, and heads of international financial institutions such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and World Trade Organization. He will discuss Assam’s ongoing governance reforms, industrial development plans, and technology-driven development initiatives that are accelerating the state’s economic transformation. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu also congratulated Sarma on this historic move and wished him success.
Demonstrating India’s strong presence and leadership
India had a strong presence at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting this year. With the theme “Spirit of Dialogue,” the Indian delegation includes four Union Ministers and six Chief Ministers. Additionally, CEOs of over 100 leading companies from India are participating. Chief Ministers include Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra, Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh, Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam, Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh, A. Revanth Reddy of Telangana, and Hemant Soren of Jharkhand. This active participation by India is an important means of making global investors and stakeholders aware of India’s development model and economic potential.
