The risk of viral infections increases during the winter season. Many people suffer from colds and flu during this season. People with weak immunity fall sick easily during the changing weather. Cold causes runny noses. Runny nose, or rhinorrhea, can be caused by cold, flu, allergies, cold weather, sinus infections, or certain medications that cause excess mucus to be secreted from the lining of the nose. In such cases, people take medications to get relief. But did you know that a runny nose can be stopped with some home remedies?
Steaming: This is the most effective way to stop a runny nose. Fill a large pot with hot water. Cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam for 5-10 minutes. You can add a few drops of peppermint oil or eucalyptus oil to the water. This will provide quick relief.
Salt water gargles: Salt water is a panacea for sore throats and nasal congestion. Mix half a teaspoon of salt in lukewarm water and gargle. This will also provide significant relief.
Ginger and honey tea: Ginger has antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Boil a small piece of ginger in water, add a teaspoon of honey, and drink it. This warms the body from within and fights infection.
Turmeric milk: Turmeric contains curcumin, which helps prevent infections. To do this, mix half a teaspoon of turmeric in a glass of warm milk and drink it before bed. This provides great relief from colds and runny noses.
Garlic intake: Garlic contains an element called ‘allicin’ which strengthens the immune system and is helpful in getting rid of runny nose.
