Assam News: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Monday for a one-day visit to the state, during which he inaugurated several important infrastructure and cultural projects across various districts of Assam. These included the Batadrava cultural project in Nagaon district and the 5,000-seat Jyoti Bishnu Auditorium in Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on social media, “Feeling honored to welcome Hon’ble Amit Shah ji at Guwahati Airport. His visit will mark a new beginning for Assam’s development and cultural renaissance. We look forward to his guidance and advice.”

Delayed Arrival and Travel Challenges

Amit Shah’s Guwahati visit was originally scheduled for Sunday night from Ahmedabad, but his flight was canceled due to fog, causing a delay in his travel. Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while reviewing the preparations for the projects at Batadrava, had mentioned that air travel might be delayed due to inclement weather. He had tweeted, “Flight might be delayed due to fog conditions over Guwahati. – I hope he will land here by 11:30 PM.”

Inauguration of Batadrava and Other Projects

Amit Shah inaugurated the ₹227 crore redevelopment project at Bordowa in Nagaon district, the birthplace of the Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva. Following the inauguration, Shah also addressed a public rally there. Later, upon returning to Guwahati, he inaugurated the new ₹111 crore Guwahati Police Commissionerate building and the ₹189 crore Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS). The ICCS will monitor over 2,000 CCTV cameras in Guwahati, strengthening security and emergency response capabilities in the state.

Inauguration and Conclusion of the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex

On the same day, Amit Shah also inaugurated the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex, built at a cost of ₹291 crore. This auditorium has a seating capacity of 5,000 and is considered a significant step in the state’s cultural development. After the inauguration, Amit Shah departed for New Delhi. This visit not only boosted cultural and spiritual projects in Assam but also strengthened the city’s security and emergency surveillance systems.
