Speaking at a rally in Guwahati, Assam, on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress party. He claimed that a plot to incorporate Assam into East Pakistan was being plotted and that the development of Assam and the Northeast was not even on the agenda of Congress regimes.
He said, “Those in power during the Congress regimes used to say, ‘Who even goes to Assam and the Northeast?’ Their thinking was that Assam and the Northeast didn’t need modern airports, better railways, and highways. Because of this mindset, the Congress neglected this entire region for decades.”
For me, the development of Assam is a responsibility
Prime Minister Modi said, “The Congress made mistakes for 6-7 decades, and Modi is correcting those mistakes one by one. For me, the development of Assam is a necessity, a responsibility, and I am accountable for it. That is why, in the last 11 years, projects worth lakhs of crores of rupees have been launched for Assam and the Northeast. Assam has become the number one state in implementing the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the Congress era, it was impossible to get a government job in Assam without bribes or connections, but today thousands of young people are getting jobs here without any bribes or connections.”
Districts once considered violence-ridden are now developing
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “During the Congress governments, the cycle of violence continued unabated. Now we are moving towards ending it within just 10 days. In the areas of the Northeast that once witnessed violence and bloodshed, digital connectivity is now reaching through 4G and 5G technology. The districts that were once considered violence-ridden are now developing as aspirational districts.”
“These areas will also become industrial corridors in the coming times,” he continued. This has led to a renewed sense of confidence about the Northeast, which we need to bolster even more.
