Assam News: The Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express collided with elephants that had strayed onto the railway tracks in the Maligaon area of Assam, causing the train’s engine and five coaches to derail. Fortunately, there were no human casualties or injuries reported in the accident. However, eight elephants died in the incident.
The most reassuring aspect of this accident was that no passengers were killed or injured. According to railway officials, the loco pilot applied the emergency brakes in time, which limited the damage. The passengers on board the train were safely evacuated.
Railway Initiates Relief and Restoration Work
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway, stated that accident relief trains and senior officials were dispatched to the site immediately after receiving information about the incident. Work to repair the tracks and remove the damaged coaches is being carried out rapidly to restore rail traffic as soon as possible.

Frequent Incidents in Elephant Corridor
The area where the accident occurred is known as an elephant corridor, where wild elephants are frequently seen. There have been previous incidents of trains colliding with wildlife on this section of the railway line, raising concerns among local residents.
Rail Operations Temporarily Affected
Following the accident, train operations on the Jamunamukh-Kampur section were temporarily affected. The railway administration is making arrangements to divert trains via alternative routes and provide necessary facilities to passengers. The situation is being continuously monitored.
