Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Assam on December 20 and 21. During this visit, he will inaugurate the Bamboo Orchids Terminal 2 at Guwahati Airport on December 20. This new terminal is designed to handle 13.1 million passengers annually.
On December 20, Prime Minister Modi will officially open the new integrated terminal building (Terminal 2) at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI). Inspired by Assamese culture, the terminal’s “Bamboo Orchids” theme has bamboo architecture, Kopou orchid (foxtail orchid) motifs, and Gamosa (a traditional Assamese cloth) designs.
This new terminal at Guwahati Airport has been built with sustainable design in mind, presenting a beautiful blend of modern amenities and local culture.
Annual Capacity of 13.1 Million Passengers
The Bamboo Orchids Terminal 2 at Guwahati Airport is inspired by the Kopou flower (foxtail orchid) and local bamboo. Its estimated cost is approximately ₹4,000 crore. This terminal will have the capacity to handle 13.1 million passengers annually by 2032.
World-Class Gateway
The biggest advantage of this terminal will be that it will establish Guwahati as a world-class gateway to Northeast India and Southeast Asia. It will also significantly boost connectivity, tourism, trade, and economic development in the region.
