Assam: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Thursday called for a national movement to investigate the functioning of the Election Commission. This move came after party leader Rahul Gandhi alleged alleged “vote theft” in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. Gogoi said in a social media post, “The Election Commission’s inaction on “vote theft” is tantamount to admitting guilt and a feeble attempt to conceal injustice to the public. A national movement is necessary to reform and investigate this important institution.”

He said it was a “centralized scheme” and that the Election Commission colluded with the BJP to ensure its victory. BJP Rejects Allegations
Meanwhile, the BJP termed the allegations made by Congress leaders as “false and baseless.” The party said that Rahul Gandhi is trying to hide his own failures and defame the country’s democratic process by questioning the Election Commission. The BJP clarified that the Election Commission functions independently and does not make any decisions in favor of any political party.
Need for a National Movement and Strengthening Democracy
Gaurav Gogoi said that a nationwide movement is needed to ensure the fairness and transparency of the Election Commission. He said that when institutions remain inactive in the face of allegations of political interference and corruption, democracy will weaken. He appealed to all citizens to raise their voices to protect democracy and reform the Election Commission. This controversy has also raised questions about the credibility of the electoral process and democratic institutions, becoming a topic of debate across the country.
