Assam News: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a major statement on Monday, saying that his government’s immediate goal is to provide speedy justice to the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg. The Chief Minister categorically stated that Zubeen Garg’s death was not the result of any “incident or accident,” but rather “murder.” He said, “Today I will call Zubeen Garg’s death a case of murder, not a simple incident or accident.” The Chief Minister stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case is preparing to file a charge sheet before December 17, with a target date of December 8. Sarma explained, “If an incident occurs abroad, permission from the Home Ministry is required to file a charge sheet. Yesterday, I met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested for expedited permission in this matter. I am confident that the SIT will soon send a letter to the Home Ministry, and as soon as permission is granted, the charge sheet will be filed—possibly by December 8.”
10 Bighas of Land Allocated for Zubeen Garg’s Memorial
Chief Minister Sarma also clarified that the state government has allocated 10 bighas of land for the memorial of the late artist Zubeen Garg. He said, “We have allocated 10 bighas of land for Zubeen Garg’s memorial, just like the one given for Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s memorial. We want to show equal respect to both great artists, so the size of the land has been kept the same.” Sarma also added that he was not aware whether Health Minister Ashok Singhal owned land in the area. He said, “It is not my responsibility to look into who owns land around the area. My job is only to ensure appropriate land for the memorial.”

The government’s first priority is justice for Zubeen Garg, politics later.
Chief Minister Sarma, during a check distribution program organized under the “Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamruti Abhiyaan” (MMUA) in Jamugurihat, Sonitpur district, stated that the state government’s first priority is ensuring justice in the Zubeen Garg case. He said, “Our first priority is Zubeen Garg. If we get involved in other cases before filing a charge sheet, the public will not be happy.” He also launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, saying, “Gaurav Gogoi is 100% a Pakistani agent. But right now, our focus is on Zubeen Garg, not politics.” The Chief Minister stated that the government is conducting a complete, impartial investigation into the matter and will not accept any pressure or political interference.
All secrets will be revealed after the SIT report, counterattacking the opposition.
Chief Minister Sarma stated that the government will make public information related to the Zubeen Garg case only after the SIT report is released. He hit back at the opposition, saying, “Even if we share the information in January, it won’t make any difference. The day the opposition demands it, I will respond the very next day. I will not work according to my enemy parties.” The Chief Minister’s statement came in response to allegations by the Assam Congress of “hiding facts” and “misleading the public.” Sarma said the public wants to know the truth, and that truth will only emerge after the SIT report. He assured that the government is fully committed to ensuring strict punishment for those responsible for Zubeen Garg’s death and that the case will reach its conclusion soon.
