Assam News: The controversy between Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over semiconductor investment has now escalated into an open political battle. What was originally a matter of industrial policy has now escalated into a heated exchange of accusations between the Congress and the BJP. The two leaders are constantly exchanging words, and a war is also raging on social media.
Assam BJP’s ‘Teddy Boy’ jibe
As the controversy escalated, the Assam BJP took a dig at Priyank Kharge on Twitter (formerly Twitter). The party wrote, “Hello Teddy Boy, writing long articles doesn’t make you a semiconductor expert.” The BJP then targeted Kharge for the poverty in his district, telling him to improve his own area before using his “talent tank.” This statement further fueled the controversy.
Hello Teddy Boy, writing long essays on X doesn’t make you a “semiconductor expert”😂
Instead of giving lectures about Assam, maybe take a good hard look at your own backyard- your district still tops the chart of poverty in South India. So much for your “talent tank”, huh? 💀 https://t.co/a0LFTWjPPX

Priyank Kharge’s allegation sparks uproar
The controversy began when Priyank Kharge alleged that the central government was diverting semiconductor projects from Karnataka to Gujarat and Assam. He stated that these industries wanted to come to Bengaluru, but were pressured by the central government to relocate. Kharge also said that Karnataka’s technological environment and engineering capabilities are best suited for such projects, but politics has put a brake on development.
Sarma’s counterattack and legal warning
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded strongly to Kharge’s statement. He even called Kharge a “first-class idiot” and said that the statement insulted the dreams of Assam’s youth. Sarma also said that his government was considering legal action against Kharge’s “derogatory statement.” He also accused the Congress party of maintaining silence, calling it an “arrogant attitude.”
Kharge’s counterattack and 2026 claim
Priyank Kharge hit back, calling Sarma’s allegations false. He said Sarma was using the controversy to hide his own failures. Kharge alleged that the BJP government in Assam was grappling with corruption and unemployment, while the Chief Minister had only increased his wealth. He reiterated that the central government had pressured semiconductor companies to move to Gujarat and Assam. Kharge said that if the Congress government comes to power in 2026, employment and skill development would be prioritized in the state.
