Assam News: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday unveiled several major development initiatives for the Barak Valley. These include a 208-bed super-specialty hospital at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) at a cost of ₹295 crore, the foundation stone of which was laid by the Chief Minister the same evening. During a press conference at the Police Parade Ground in Silchar, he stated that this hospital project will prove to be a milestone in strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in the Barak Valley. The Chief Minister stated that the state government’s objective is to provide state-of-the-art healthcare services to every corner.
Launch of Major Infrastructure Projects
In addition to the super-specialty hospital, the Chief Minister also announced other important infrastructure projects. These include the construction of an elevated road corridor from the Trunk Road to Capital Point under Phase I and a new bridge over the Barak River at Moduraghat. These projects will play a crucial role in strengthening the connectivity and infrastructure of the region. Sarma stated that these initiatives will provide smooth and safe travel opportunities to the people of the Barak Valley.

Dolu Airport Project Update
The Chief Minister also provided information on the long-awaited Dolu Airport Project. He stated that the proposal has already been approved by the Airport Authority. It will now go to the Standing Finance Committee and then the Cabinet. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that all necessary procedures will be completed by the end of this year. This project will not only enhance local and interstate connectivity but also boost economic and business activities in the Barak Valley.
Commitment to Balanced Regional Development
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that these projects reflect the government’s comprehensive vision of balanced regional development. He said, “The Barak Valley will see a transformation in health and connectivity—two important pillars of development.” The Chief Minister assured the public that the state government’s developmental plans and focus on public welfare will ensure that people will continue to support the BJP in 2026. These projects will not only provide modern healthcare facilities and improved travel convenience, but will also set new benchmarks in the social and economic development of the Barak Valley.
