Assam News: Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday met with the family of Assamese music icon Zubin Garg and demanded a transparent and speedy investigation into his death in Singapore. Gandhi said the people of Assam and Zubin Garg’s family deserve to know the truth and receive closure.
After meeting Zubin’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, and family members, Rahul Gandhi told reporters, “Those who listened to and loved him deserve to know what really happened. It is the government’s responsibility to conduct a transparent investigation and provide accurate information to the family. The sooner the truth comes out, the better.”
Gandhi also said the Congress party stands with Zubin’s family and the people of Assam in this time of grief. He paid tribute by planting a sapling of Zubin’s favorite tree, the Nahor, at the funeral site.
Assam BJP’s campaign ‘Moiu Zubin, Amiu Zubin’
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the BJP will launch a campaign across the state, “Moiu Zubin, Amiu Zubin” (I am also Zubin, we are also Zubin), starting October 23rd. The campaign aims to ensure a speedy trial, a special public prosecutor, and a strong charge sheet in the Zubin Garg death case.
The BJP’s 10-point agenda includes:
- Garg
- Opening two music schools named after Zubin Garg and Bhupen Hazarika in each BJP constituency
- Planting Nahor trees by BJP members
- Current investigation in the case and
- Installing statues of Zubin seven arrests so far

Zubin Garg’s death and status of the investigation
Zubin Garg died on September 19th in Singapore, where he had gone to attend the 4th North East India Festival. A 10-member SIT team from the Assam Police CID is scheduled to travel to Singapore to investigate the case.
Seven people have been arrested so far, including:
- Festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta
- Zubin’s manager Siddharth Sharma
- His cousin Sandipan (Assam Police officer)
- Two band members and two PSOs
Chief Minister Sarma appealed to people not to pay attention to false social media content.
Zubin Garg’s legacy and the need for justice
Chief Minister Sarma said that the BJP’s campaign is solely aimed at ensuring justice and preserving Zubin Garg’s musical and cultural legacy for future generations. The campaign includes establishing music schools, statues, and planting trees in Zubin’s memory, so that his contributions are always remembered.
