Intense gunfire and the sound of multiple grenade explosions late Thursday night in Kakopathar, Tinsukia district, Assam, spread panic and fear among local residents. The firing reportedly continued for about an hour near the Kakopathar Army Camp.
According to preliminary information, the attack targeted the camp of the Indian Army’s 19 Grenadiers unit at around 12:00 a.m. According to security sources, three army personnel were injured in the blast.
Army and police cordon off the area
Immediately after the attack, the army and police cordoned off the area and restricted civilian movement in the vicinity. Search operations are currently underway in the area to try to apprehend the attackers.
Local officials reported that a truck suspected to have been used by the attackers was later found abandoned in the Tengapani area of neighboring Arunachal Pradesh. This truck could help determine the attackers’ escape route and the type of vehicle they used.
No claim of responsibility for the attack yet
No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, preliminary investigations and clues point to the ULFA (Independent) faction, which has a history of carrying out similar attacks in Upper Assam.
Security agencies are also considering the possibility that the attackers carried out a pre-planned attack on the army camp. Local administration and army officials are continuously working to establish the attackers’ links and their plans.

Security has been further tightened in the areas around Kakopathar following the incident. The army and police have jointly intensified investigations and patrolling. Locals are concerned about the incident, and the administration has urged citizens to adhere to security standards and report suspicious activities.
