AI video controversy escalates political debate, Owaisi says: dangerous message of removing Muslims from India

AI video controversy: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday strongly criticized the Assam BJP, alleging that the party attempted to intimidate and create an anti-Muslim atmosphere by releasing an AI-generated video. Owaisi said on Twitter, “The BJP Assam has posted an insulting AI video that shows that if the BJP were not in power, Assam would have a Muslim majority. This isn’t just fear-mongering for votes; it’s a direct manifestation of Hindutva ideology. The existence of Muslims is a problem for them; their dream is a Muslim-free India. They have no vision for India.”

Calling the video “genocidal and derogatory,”

Owaisi said that just as the Patna High Court ordered the removal of an AI video insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother, the same standard should be applied to the Assam BJP video. He said, “This video is not only offensive but also genocidal. It portrays Muslim citizens as a threat and a persecuted group.” He stated that the video is a deliberate attempt to spread hatred and incite communal unrest in society.

Opposition Outrage

The video, titled “Assam Without BJP,” released on the Assam BJP’s official X handle, sparked widespread outrage within the opposition. The video depicted Muslims as “illegal immigrants” occupying public spaces and government land, and presented Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Goghoi alongside images with links to Pakistan. Opposition leaders accused the Assam BJP of inciting communal hatred. AICC Secretary Mansoor Khan said, “The Assam BJP has resorted to the lowest-level politics of spreading communal hatred by portraying a Muslim-majority Assam through a fake AI video. This is a deliberate attack and an insult to the shared values of the people. The people of Assam will give a befitting reply to your poisonous campaign.”

Congress Demands Election Commission

The Congress party has also demanded accountability from the Election Commission regarding this video. Supriya Shrinate, the party’s president of social media and digital platforms, questioned whether the Election Commission would take action in this matter. She said on X, “The BJP is spoiling the atmosphere by spreading such venom. Will you, Chief Election Commissioner, remain silent as usual and justify this?” The Congress party says that this video is not just political propaganda, but a deliberate attempt to incite communal tension.
