Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will emerge as the largest party in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. He expressed this confidence while talking to reporters after addressing a public meeting in Afalgaon (Dotma) regarding these elections to be held on September 22. Sarma said that the BJP aims to form a “triple engine government” in the BTC, which will include the BJP along with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
Pledge to develop together with allies
Chief Minister Sarma said that not only will the BJP become the largest party, but candidates of other parties are also seeking BJP’s support. He described this as an indication that the trust of the people in the region is increasing on the BJP. Sarma made it clear that everyone has to move together for the progress of Bodoland. He said, “We all have to move forward the vehicle of development of Bodoland together, which will be fueled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” During this, he indicated that the BJP, along with major parties like BPF and UPPL, will try to bring stability and development in regional politics.

Peaceful election atmosphere and attack on Congress
Speaking on pre-poll violence, the Chief Minister said that this time the incidents have been very less as compared to the assembly elections. He described it as a natural situation for the youth to contest elections and said that overall this time the BTC election campaign has been peaceful. Sarma termed it as the “festival of democracy” of the region. Completely rejecting the Congress party, he said that the Congress has no role in the BTC elections and its influence is zero.
Focus on industrialization, agriculture and tourism
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma pointed out the immense potential of the Bodoland region in his address. He said that there are huge opportunities here in the field of industrialization, agriculture and tourism. If the BJP, UPPL and BPF work together, then this region can touch new heights of development. Sarma made it clear that the resolve to establish Bodoland as a new industrial and agricultural hub in the coming years is among the priorities of the BJP. He appealed to the people to join hands to take the region on the path of peace, stability and prosperity.
