Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday distributed scooters to more than 9,000 community workers under the expanded ‘Sakhi Express’ program. This initiative is being considered a major achievement of the state government towards rural development and women empowerment.
Through this program, women will get an opportunity to become self-reliant. Community workers will now be able to work more actively in their area and participation in social work will increase. Expansion of ‘Sakhi Express’ scheme
Under the ‘Sakhi Express’ scheme, every worker was also given a helmet along with a scooter. Also, they will also be provided Rs 500 per month to buy fuel. This step is not only for the convenience of women workers but also promotes road safety and responsible driving. The distribution of helmets emphasizes that road safety and following rules are necessary at all times.
The objective of the scheme is not just to provide transport facilities. Through this, the monitoring of self-help groups (SHGs) is improved, travel expenses are reduced and deeper participation is ensured at the rural level.
