The Cachar district administration in Assam has launched the Cha Shramik Aashray Yojana, a state government scheme designed to provide resting facilities with toilets for tea garden workers. This initiative aims to address a long-standing demand of tea workers for proper resting spaces within estates. Implementation and Monitoring
District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, during a review meeting, directed officials to identify suitable land in tea estates for the construction of shelter units. He emphasized that the implementation process will be closely monitored to ensure transparency and maintain high quality. Officials have been instructed to begin construction without any delay so that the benefits reach the workers as soon as possible.
Cost and Allocation of Shelters
Each shelter unit under the scheme is estimated to cost ₹5.16 lakh. Estates up to 500 hectares will receive one shelter unit, those between 500 and 700 hectares will get two units, and estates larger than 700 hectares will have three units. The allocation aims to ensure equitable distribution of resources based on the size of the tea estate and the number of workers residing there.
Fund Management and Construction Committees
To avoid administrative bottlenecks and ensure smooth fund transfers, dedicated bank accounts and construction committees are being established for each project. This step is intended to streamline the process, maintain accountability, and ensure that construction proceeds efficiently. Authorities are committed to providing a safe and hygienic resting environment for tea workers.
