Assam Police has ordered Siddharth Varadarajan and Karan Thapar to appear before the Crime Branch of Guwahati City Police on August 22. The summons have been issued under an FIR, which mentions sections such as threatening the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country, spreading enmity between groups and making derogatory comments against national unity.
Varadarajan expressed readiness to cooperate
According to sources, Varadarajan has sought a copy of the FIR from Assam Police and has said “full cooperation” in the investigation. He said that he received the summons both through speed post and WhatsApp, but the FIR was not attached to it. Thapar was summoned on Monday. The notice also warns that disobeying the summons can lead to arrest.
