This year’s Assam Book Fair was announced at a press conference held at the Assam Publication Council office on Tuesday. Council Secretary Pramod Kalita shared the details of the event with representatives of the All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association. This year the book fair will be held in eight cities of Assam from October 2025 to January 2026.
Special events and expansion in Guwahati
The book fair in Guwahati will again be held at the Veterinary College grounds in Khanapara. This time the event duration has been increased to 14 days compared to last year. This will give more time to book lovers and they will be able to participate in various book and literary discussions. The organizers also said that the government special funds, which are allocated to employees for book purchases under the ‘Year of Books’ initiative, will be effectively used in the book fair.

Aim to promote literary culture
Pramod Kalita said that the aim of this regional expansion is to promote reading culture in Assam. “Taking the book fair to multiple cities is an indication of our desire to spread the value of literature to different communities and to develop a keen interest in reading.” The initiative will provide a platform to both new and established authors and provide a variety of literary experiences to readers.
Attractive events and author engagements
The book fair will feature established and emerging authors as well as literary discussions and a variety of books. It is expected to attract thousands of visitors. Financial assistance has also been decided for the book fair organised by the Assam Publications Council. An amount of Rs 5 lakh has been sanctioned for district headquarters and Rs 2.5 lakh for co-district headquarters.
