Assam News: BJP is strict on the attempt to create "Miya-Land" in Assam, calls for saving cultural identity

Assam News: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has categorically rejected the alleged attempts to turn the state into “Miya-Land“. The party has termed it a serious threat to the cultural and demographic identity of the state. The BJP claims that the population structure of Assam is changing rapidly due to illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, which is a matter of concern.

Census data rings alarm bells

BJP’s Assam spokesperson Kishore Kumar Upadhyay, citing the 1991 and 2011 census, said that there has been a sharp increase in the Muslim population in districts like Dhubri and Barpeta. He says that this increase is the result of illegal infiltration. This is not only increasing pressure on local resources but is also creating imbalance in the social structure of the state.

Allegation of encroachment on land and religious places

The party alleged that Muslims of Bangladeshi origin are illegally occupying forest land, government property and religious places like temples and satras. The BJP has called it a planned cultural invasion. This is not only hurting religious sentiments but also endangering the historical heritage of Assam.

Miyan Museum and cultural conflict

The BJP also termed the demand for “Miyan Museum” raised earlier as against cultural identity. This museum was demanded to be built in Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra which is considered the cultural soul of Assam. The party says that some groups are trying to change the cultural identity of the state and even change the names of historical sites.

Strictness and resolve of Assam government

The Assam government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made it clear that illegal intruders and encroachers will be removed from the state. The government said that it will take every necessary step to protect the cultural and demographic integrity of Assam. Encroachment removal campaigns are already going on in many districts and it will be intensified in future.
