The recent statement of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has brought heat in politics. He said that the safety of the people in Assam can only be ensured by taking up arms. Not only this, he also said that he is waiting for an “explosive situation” in the state. This statement was given during a press conference in Dibrugarh which has shaken the politics of the entire state.
Sharp opposition from Assam Jatiya Parishad
The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has strongly opposed this statement of the Chief Minister. Party President Lurinjyoti Gogoi and General Secretary Jagdish Bhuinya have termed it a trick to mislead the public. He said that the BJP government came to power in the name of ‘Jaati-Mati-Bheti’ i.e. protection of Assam’s identity, land and rights, but now the government is making emotional and provocative statements to hide its failure.

Ignoring Assam Accord
AJP leaders said that the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is the most scientific and constitutional way to protect the identity and rights of Assam. This clause has already been approved by the Government of India in the Parliament but it has not been implemented yet. He said that the Chief Minister’s statement ignores this constitutional path and is an attempt to mislead the public.
Proof of government’s failure
AJP alleged that this statement of the Chief Minister is an indication that the government has failed in fulfilling its responsibility. It is the duty of the government to ensure the safety of citizens but when the Chief Minister himself is advising people to take up arms, it is clear that the government has failed to maintain law and order.
Memorandum will be submitted to the Prime Minister
AJP has announced that it will submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue. In this, a complaint will be lodged against the Chief Minister’s statement and administrative failures in Assam will be highlighted. The party believes that such statements are not only against constitutional norms but can also endanger the peace and harmony of the state.
