A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Bongaigaon, Assam, where a 30-year-old female assistant engineer committed suicide in her rented house. When the woman was found dead in her house on Tuesday, there was a sensation in the area. The revelations in the police investigation after this incident raised questions on the entire administrative system. In fact, a suicide note was recovered from the room of the deceased, in which the woman had accused two senior government officials of constantly pressuring her to pass fake bills. Due to this she was under mental stress and had to take a big step like suicide.
Names of officials revealed in suicide note
The female assistant engineer clearly mentioned in her suicide note that two senior officials were pressuring her to pass fake and inflated bills of incomplete projects. She wrote that she was living under stress due to constant pressure and mental harassment. Bongaigaon SSP Mohan Lal Meena said that the two officials named in the suicide note have been arrested. The arrested officers include a PWD executive engineer and a sub-divisional officer. Both the officers were transferred from the district earlier this month, despite which they did not stop pressurizing the woman.

Officials sent to judicial custody
SSP Mohan Lal Meena said that both the officers have been sent to judicial custody and the police have also obtained permission from the court for interrogation and further investigation. He said that the police is seriously investigating all the allegations made in the suicide note. Another officer, on condition of anonymity, said that both the arrested officers were pressurizing the woman engineer regarding the bills related to the construction work of a mini stadium in Bongaigaon. The accused officers forced the woman to pass the fake and inflated bills submitted by the contractor and constantly harassed her.
Corruption and mental harassment took away her life
In the suicide note, the woman engineer alleged that the accused officers were pressurizing her to pass the inflated bills submitted by the contractor and were harassing her if she did not do so. This incident has exposed the bitter truth of corruption prevalent in government departments and the mental harassment of women employees. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the family of the deceased after this incident. The family has demanded justice and said that the culprits should be given the harshest punishment so that in future no one else’s daughter or sister has to lose her life under the pressure of such mental harassment and corruption. At the same time, there is an atmosphere of anger and resentment in the society regarding this incident. People say that strict steps should be taken to stop the corruption spread in the system so that officers and employees working honestly can get justice and they are not forced to take drastic steps like suicide.
