Assam News: The court has finally given its verdict in a 13-year-old heartbreaking case in Charaideo district of Assam. This case is from the year 2012 when a woman was burnt alive by a mob calling her a witch. This inhumane incident had created a wave of anger in the entire area at that time. Now after so many years, the court has given justice to the victim’s family and convicted 23 people. All of them have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
12 men and 11 women found guilty
This case was going on in the District and Sessions Court of Charaideo district of Assam. Court judge Abubakar Siddiqui completed the hearing of this case and pronounced the verdict. The 23 people found guilty in this case include 12 men and 11 women. The court has sentenced everyone to life imprisonment. Along with this, a fine of Rs 5000 has also been imposed on each convict. The court has also ordered to give compensation of Rs 8 lakh to the victim’s family.

The victim was killed by calling her a witch
This incident is from Jalha village of Charaideo district. According to the police, some people of the village suspected the woman of practicing witchcraft. Based on this suspicion, a group first beat her badly and mentally tortured her. After this, she was thrown into the fire alive. Due to this cruelty, the woman died on the spot. This news spread like fire in the entire state and there was deep concern against superstition in the society.
Verdict after a 13-year long battle
The hearing of this case was going on for the last 13 years. Waiting for justice for such a long time was very painful for the victim’s family. But now when the court has convicted all the 23 accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment, it is being considered a big relief. This decision is also a warning for all those people who even today do not hesitate to commit violence in the name of superstition. This case makes it clear that no one can escape the eyes of law and truth ultimately prevails.
