Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made serious allegations against Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi. He has appealed to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi not to include Gogoi in the international delegation clarifying the country’s position on Pakistan-linked terrorism. Sarma says that Gogoi has not denied staying in Pakistan for two weeks and his wife was receiving salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while living in India. He has described it as a serious threat to national security.
Sarma made many serious questions and claims
CM Sarma said that he has documentary evidence that Gogoi had gone to Pakistan and his wife was also with him for the first seven days. He claimed that his entry and exit from the Attari border has been recorded. Along with this, Sarma also raised the question whether Gogoi had also visited sensitive areas like Army Headquarters, Lahore, Sindh in Pakistan. He said that passport and immigration related documents are being collected to confirm this. Sarma also said that Gogoi’s wife is a British citizen and his children also have foreign citizenship, which raises questions on security.
One of the MPs named in the list ( from Assam ) has not denied his prolonged stay in Pakistan—reportedly for two weeks—and credible documents show that his wife was drawing salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while working in India.

Gogoi’s retort, give proof or resign
Gaurav Gogoi has outright rejected these allegations and challenged Sarma that if he cannot prove his allegations then he should resign. Gogoi questioned on social media why CM Sarma is trying to prove him and his wife as traitors. He also asked whether the Chief Minister will answer questions related to his family. Gogoi has also questioned the government’s silence on the issues of coal mafia and illegal money in Assam.
None of the questions answered. I will repeat.
1) Will you resign if you fail to prove your allegations of me and my wife being agents of an enemy country ?
2) Will you take questions on your own children and wife ?
3) Will the state police arrest those linked to coal mafia… https://t.co/3bXQrbYlMM

Politics also started regarding the delegation
This controversy started when the central government formed an international delegation to clarify India’s position on Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. MPs from various parties have been included in this delegation and Congress was also asked to send four names. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had contacted the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition and asked for names. In this sequence, Gogoi’s name also came up, after which Sarma raised objections.
