CM Sarma big announcement - New scheme will start now, will the future of Assam change?

CM Sarma big announcement: The BJP and Assam Gana Parishad (AGP)-led NDA has registered a landslide victory in the 2025 Panchayat elections in Assam. In these elections held in 27 districts of the state, the NDA has captured 300 out of a total of 397 Zilla Parishad seats. At the same time, the NDA has won 1,436 out of 2,192 Anchalik Panchayat seats. This result is not only a big political achievement for the BJP but it is also a strong signal before the 2026 assembly elections.

Clean sweep in Hindu majority areas and lead in minority areas

Addressing the media at the BJP headquarters in Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this victory is a proof of the welfare schemes and trustworthy leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that in Hindu-dominated areas, the NDA has won almost all the Zilla Parishad seats. But the special thing is that in minority-dominated areas too, the NDA has won five seats and has been in second place on many seats. If this trend continues, then BJP is likely to get more than 100 assembly seats in 2026.

Big jump in vote share and seats

This time the NDA has got a total of 76.22 percent votes in the Zilla Parishad and 66 percent votes in the Anchalik Panchayat. In this, BJP alone won 1,265 Anchalik Panchayat seats while AGP won 171 seats. The position of Congress remained weak and it was reduced to only 72 Zilla Parishad seats and 21 percent vote share in Anchalik Panchayat. Chief Minister Sarma said that this time the vote share and seats of NDA have increased by 26 percent compared to 2018. This is a direct ‘pro-incumbency’ mandate from the public which reflects satisfaction with the functioning of the government.

Promise of new plans and preparation for 2026

The Chief Minister also announced that new development schemes will be launched from next month to further strengthen the confidence of the people ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. He expressed gratitude to BJP President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior leader BL Santosh. In his social media post, Sarma thanked the people of Assam and said that this result reflects the tremendous trust of the people on the vision of the NDA. In this election, the NDA has performed brilliantly in districts like Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Majuli, Sonitpur and Nagaon.
