Amidst the counting of votes for Panchayat elections in Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party and its alliance partners are moving towards victory with a huge majority. Counting of votes for Zilla Parishad and Anchalik Panchayat seats is going on in many districts of the state and BJP and its allies are leading on most of the seats. These elections were held in two phases, the first phase of which was held on May 2 and the second phase on May 7 in 27 districts.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence

Addressing the workers at the BJP headquarters in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday evening that “we are going to register a huge victory in this election”. He informed that the NDA is sure to win 83 percent of the 397 Zilla Parishad seats, while the NDA is leading in 91 percent of the 2,192 Anchalik Panchayat seats. The Chief Minister said that this victory is not only the result of the hard work of the organization but also the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his love for Assam.

Role of State BJP President Dilip Saikia is important

The Chief Minister while addressing the press said that State BJP President Dilip Saikia played a leadership role in this election. He said that from the very beginning we were confident that with the right candidate selection and strong alliance we will win with a huge majority. All the ministers, MLAs, Union Ministers and BJP leaders participated in the election campaign with full vigor under the leadership of Dilip Saikia. The Chief Minister also thanked and congratulated Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP National Secretary MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita.

BJP’s dominance even in big districts

According to the latest data of vote counting, NDA is leading in 285 Zilla Parishad seats and 700 Anchalik Panchayat seats. BJP and its alliance partners have also performed brilliantly in major districts like Dibrugarh, Shivsagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Nagaon and Morigaon. This result has further strengthened the BJP’s ground hold in the state and can give the party more confidence in the upcoming assembly elections.
