Counting of votes for Panchayat elections in Assam began on Sunday, May 11, amid tight security arrangements. Officials reached the counting venue early in the morning at Amingaon in Kamrup district. District Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra said that the administration has made full preparations to conduct the counting in a peaceful and orderly manner. Counting of votes is being done at three different places in the district. Counting of Zila Parishad seats is going on in Rangia while counting for another Zila Parishad is going on at the district office. Counting of 12 Zila Parishad seats is being done at DK Girls College in Mirza.

Counting of 24 Zila Parishad seats, starting with postal ballots

Deputy Commissioner Mishra informed that counting of votes is being done for a total of 24 Zila Parishad seats. The counting has started with the counting of postal ballots, after which the process of counting the first phase of ballots will begin. Tight security arrangements have been made at all counting venues and only authorized employees have been allowed to enter inside. At the counting centers, election officials, counting staff and supervisors were seen busy with their responsibilities since morning. The administration was fully alert to avoid any kind of chaos.

The counting process started in Dibrugarh district too amid tight security. Here, Assam’s Power Minister and BJP leader Prasanta Phukan, while talking to the media, expressed confidence about BJP’s victory. He said that seeing the development taking place in Assam and the way the country is moving forward, the public is inclined towards the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said that the results that will come will definitely be in favor of BJP because most of the people are BJP supporters and are satisfied with the functioning of the government.

Elections were held in two phases, more than 1.80 crore voters

Assam Panchayat elections were held in two phases. The first phase of voting took place in 14 districts on May 2, while the second phase of voting was held in the remaining 13 districts on May 7. Voting was conducted at 25,007 polling stations across the state in which more than 1.80 crore voters participated. These included 90.71 lakh men, 89.65 lakh women and 408 others. Now all eyes are on the counting results and it will be interesting to see which party has got the support of the public.
